What is the Gulf Shores National Annual Shrimp Fest?
The National Annual Shrimp Festival has been around for nearly 50 years and is as popular now as it was at its inception. It’s always been local and 100% volunteer-led, making it distinct from other events in the area. These days, the festival brings more than 250,000 visitors every year, so you’ll be in great company! Enjoy delicious food, live music, and plenty of other family-friendly activities over this four-day festival.
The Food
Walk the food boardwalk anytime during the event. What you’ll mostly find is shrimp, which is considered the star of the whole event. Multiple crustacean dishes can be bought (and even sampled at no cost). If you crave a burger or a hot dog, many vendors will sell these as well. Be sure to look out for the “Best of the Fest” banners to try food from former award winners!
The Music
If you’ve got a singing voice, you can apply as a contestant and sing live during the event (solo or with your group) for a shot at winning a hefty cash prize! You can also hear live music from others all throughout the venue. Classic rock and jazz, along with some occasional blues and even Motown music are most of what you’ll hear. If you can, donate a few dollars to the local independent artists singing and playing to show your support.

If you’re feeling active, participate in one of the Shrimp Festival 5K and 10K races, starting at 7:30 a.m. All ages are welcome to participate! Or, if you’re not a runner, try the Golf Challenge for Education. This event takes place at nearby Kiva Dunes and starts at 7 a.m.
How Much Does It Cost?
You’ll be happy to know that the Shrimp Fest is free to attend! Parking is free, but if you don’t want to fight for a spot, take advantage of the (also free) shuttle service. You can come out and support over 50 local and regional vendors simply by attending, even if you choose not to spend a dime.
